For those who are passionate about beautiful, modern architecture, you don’t have to travel far to see some beautiful examples. The United States has incredible architecture from coast to coast.

Washington, D.C.

It’s pretty obvious that the nation’s capital would be an architectural beacon the world over. All of the obvious suspects, like the Lincoln and Washington Memorials, can be breathtaking in their beauty when seen in person. But, there are other treasures hidden outside of the main strip. The Treasury Building hosts an array of Ionic column work that feels both classical and modern in its rendering. The World War II Memorial hots both stunning arch work and some impressive fountain engineering.

Chicago, IL

The 18th and 19th century architects of Chicago were so impressive that an entire body and style of work has been called the “School of Chicago.” The sprawling layout of the city can seen foreboding to a tourist from a small town, but Chicago recognizes this and boasts an impressive repertoire of architecture-concentric tours and programs, including a lakefront boat ride that capitalizes on the architecture along the banks.

Santa Fe, NM

Santa Fe is a different kind of architectural animal from the previous entries. Its classical, adobe-style buildings have a Southwest flair that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. The 1912 push to revive and celebrate the ancient pueblo dwellings that speckle the landscape allowed for a resurgance in flat roofed clay homes. It is the home of the San Miguel church, which is thought to be the oldest church in the United States.

Minneapolis, MN

Our very own city has some of the most stunning architecture in the United States. Minneapolis prides itself on creating a beautiful environment for its residents and tourists. The modern sleekness of the Guthrie Theatre invites art and theater enthusiasts alike to enjoy its beauty. The towering steeple of the Christ Church Lutheran acts as a beacon against isolation in the city. Whatever form of architecture you are passionate about, you’ll find it in Minneapolis.
